The band selected a name in early 1987 from a list of 22 candidates submitted by band members. After several run-off elections the name, "After Hours Community Band", which had been submitted anonymously, was chosen.

Band members Leslie and Norm designed the clock tower logo and Bill rendered the art work on a, now antique, Macintosh computer, thereby making Venice Italic the official font of the band. At the invitation of an amateur vocal group, the band performed at a concert hosted by the Choral Arts Singers on June 4, 1987.
