By the summer of 1987 the band numbered 65 members. The first of what was to become many retirement home concerts was performed at Lake St. Charles Retirement Center in April 1987, followed in June by an appearance at St. Monica's Catholic Church Picnic.

During the spring and summer of 1987 the band made appearances at 14 retirement centers, nursing homes and community/civic events. The concerts were accompanied by small monetary donations which were used to begin a band-owned music library. Late that year the band applied for tax exempt status, registered as a Not-For-Profit Corporation and elected its first officers and executive committee to handle the growing complexities of band business.
